GOP Players Also Engaged In Race For Secretary Of State

Kansas City – It's unclear how news of financial mismanagement at the Kansas GOP will affect the race for Secretary of State.

The Topeka Capitol Journal reported earlier this week that an FEC audit revealed the Kansas GOP inappropriately or illegally handled hundreds of thousands of dollars during 2007 and 2008.

Kris Kobach, now a candidate for Secretary of State, was the party chair during that time.

Kobach said he knew the issue is a distraction, but said he wasn't concerned it would hurt him politically.

    Big 12 Unraveling?

    Kansas City – The Omaha World Herald said it in its lead sentence published today (Wed., June 9): That an executive at a Big 12 school expects Nebraska to become a member of the Big 10 Conference by as early as Friday. Conference affiliation is on the agenda Friday for the Nebraska Board of Regents meeting. There is also a report out of Texas from Chip Brown, who used to write for The Dallas Morning News. He writes on Orange bloods-dot-com that there's an informal agreement for the Huskers to leave for the Big 10.

    Tweets And Cells Unfriendly To PD

    Kansas City, MO – Kansas City and its police department need to combat lies spread by social media before frenzies take hold. The message is from Councilwoman Cindy Circo.

    During a Council committee meeting today, Deputy Police Chief Cy Ritter said rumors have spread that traffic checkpoints have snarled flow of cars for hours, when it was really five minutes. Ritter cited a recent checkpoint looking for unlicensed drivers on Barry Road east of I-29.

    Kansas City, MO – Gladstone voters approved a quarter cent public safety sales tax yesterday by more than a 3-to-1 margin.

    Environmental advocates are calling on the Missouri Public Service Commission to adopt new regulations to promote energy efficiency.

    The Federal Elections Commission cites financial mismanagement in an audit of the Kansas GOP and strongly criticizes former state party chair Kris Kobach.

    Premature Births Decline In Kansas City

    Kansas City, Mo. – More babies are making it to the full nine-month term in Kansas City. But experts aren't sure why.

    Between 1990 and 2006, the rate of pre-term births escalated in Kansas City and around the country. A new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found that rates are now starting to finally go down.

    The pre-term birth rate in Kansas City, Missouri dropped by almost two percentage points between 2005 and 2008.
