In a world premiere play Atypical Boy opening at the Coterie Theatre, audience members enter a funny, fable-like world that is created with color, expressive characters and puppets. In this world, conformity is valued and individuality is misunderstood. But in the midst of this is a young person who is disenfranchised because he cannot conform.

Homer Page's Guggenheim Year

Photographer Homer Page is largely unknown today because he exhibited and sold few photographs during his lifetime. A new exhibition at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art displays nearly 70 of Page's rare black-and-white photographs of post-war New York.

Kansas City, MO – One question mark has been cleared in the March second death of a 7 year old boy when he was hit by a Kansas City Fire Department truck.

The Kansas Board of Regents says it won't raise tuition for in-state students if the legislature agrees to limit budget cuts and gives the go ahead to use federal stimulus money.

The Kansas House passes a bill to create a reserve fund.

    Council Hears Benefits Plan, Buys Time On Budget

    Kansas City budget director Troy Schulte explains to the council how a $6.5 million savings wasn't quite enough.

    Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City city council had hoped to have a finished budget ordinance, but didn't accomplish that. On the day the council had hoped to put figures on the table, it heard a report on an employee benefit package that was both a victory and a disappointment.

    Budget Director Troy Schulte and others had hoped to self-insure city workers at substantial savings. Turnaround time was to short for self-insurance, but Schulte told how a committee avoided a 12 percent cost increase current providers were going to charge.

    A Kansas lawmaker is planning a hearing on a state agency's decision to provide additional funding to an organization that serves the developmentally disabled, but there's controversy about who is on the group's board.

    A bill repealing Kansas's death penalty law is scheduled for debate in the Senate.

    The maker of Wonder Bread is closing two bakeries, including one in Missouri.
