America's Need For The Written Word, And State Auditor Calls Out UM System Compensation

Missouri Auditor's Office
/
Missouri Auditor's Office

Today, bestselling author and political activist Francine Prose shares her thoughts on the importance of the written word. She says the First Amendment is under threat, and explains why what we write counts now more than ever. Then, we speak with Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway, who says certain executive payments the University of Missouri System awards break the law. Finally, Bill Brownlee updates us on KCUR's Band of the Week, The Elders.

Francine Prose will speak about the critical need for the written word, and her latest novel, 'Mister Monkey,' at the Kansas City Public Library's Plaza Branch at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, as part of the María Rosa Menocal Lecture Series. For more information, visit KCLibrary.org.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers. Reach me at steve@kcur.org or on Twitter @stevekraske.
