Ballot For Streetcar Expansion, And What's Happening With Downtown Office Spaces

Kansas City's streetcar has been running for little more than a year but there is already a proposal to extend the line south to the Plaza. However, only residents in the proposed development district will be able to vote on the expansion. We examine the ballot process and get an idea of how much the project will cost. Then, with Kansas City office vacancies far below the national average, we examine what's causing the drop and what it means for renters seeking downtown office or living spaces.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers. Reach me at steve@kcur.org or on Twitter @stevekraske.
