Creating Literature For Kids, And (Hazy) Memories Of Your First Concert

LitFestKC

Today, Jon Scieszka and Javaka Steptoe, heavy-hitters on the kid's lit scene, talk about promoting literacy and how the environment for fostering it has changed since they were little. They also reveal the creative processes behind some of their best-known works. Then, music writer Marc Myers and more than a few Up To Date listeners share memories of their very first concerts.

Jon Scieszka and Javaka Steptoe will take part in LitFestKC, going on April 28 and 29 at Kansas City Public Library's Central Library and The Rabbit hOle. Visit LitFestKC.org for a complete schedule.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers. Reach me at steve@kcur.org or on Twitter @stevekraske.
