Millions of people will tune their TVs to the second presidential debate this Sunday, but maybe you're looking for something on the big screen instead. If so, check out this weekend's non-political movie recommendations from Up To Date's indie, foreign and documentary film critics.

Mia Madre, R

  • During the shoot of her new film, an accomplished Italian film director (Margherita Buy) grapples with an egocentric American actor, played by John Turturro, and her mother's failing health.

Miss Sharon Jones!, Not rated

  • R&B vocalist Sharon Jones entrusts to Oscar winning filmmaker Barbara Kopple a documentary about how cancer sidetracked her career.

Little Men, PG

  • Tensions in an increasingly gentrified Brooklyn play out through the friendship of two middle school boys whose families become adversaries.

The Dressmaker, R
