A Day In The Life

The exodus of teachers from Kansas has caught the nation's eye. As KCUR launches a serieshighlighting the numerous challenges Kansas and Missouri teachers face, we ask three educators what a day in their lives looks like.

Guests:

  • Patrick Flynn is a 20-year veteran math teacher at Olathe East. He just won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
  • Rebeka McIntosh is in her 21st year in the Grandview school district. This is her seventh year at the district’s alternative school.
  • Chris Orlando is a 7th Grade social studies teacher in Lawrence. This is his fourth year as a teacher at Southwest Middle School.
As a host and contributor at KCUR, I seek to create a more informed citizenry and richer community. I want to enlighten and inspire our audience by delivering the information they need with accuracy and urgency, clarifying what’s complicated and teasing out the complexities of what seems simple. I work to craft conversations that reveal realities in our midst and model civil discourse in a divided world. Follow me on Twitter @ptsbrian or email me at brian@kcur.org.
Slow news days are a thing of the past. As KCUR’s news director, I want to cut through the noise, provide context to the headlines, and give you news you can use in your daily life – information that will empower you to make informed decisions about your neighborhood, your city and the region.
