Whether you know him as Lou Grant from the Mary Tyler Moore show, the cantankerous old man in the animated blockbuster UP, or for his outspoken and raucous political views, Emmy-winning actor Ed Asner is a character among characters both on screen and off.
For this Thursday's Central Standard, he joins us for a conversation about America, his recent work, and his upcoming one man show as FDR. He'll be performing it this weekend to help restore the chapel at Sheffield Cemetery.
Plus, we make the mistake of asking him about the the future of Journalism --
Well I don’t have to tell you… you’re in the media... you've watched the sand castles drifting away into the surf, by by corporate ownership, corporate domination. There is no freedom of speech we can speak of.

Ed Asner is coming back to the KC area to portray FDR in a benefit for Sheffield Cemetery. The one man show will be held June 17th at 7pm at the Jewish Community Center, 5801 W. 115th St. in Overland Park. Tickets are $36. Proceeds will go to restore the chapel at the Sheffield Cemetery.
In preparing for this show, our team got a huge kick out of this video we found from the first episode of the Mary Tyler Moore Show. "If you can get by with $15 less a week, we'll make you producer!"
