Family Choices: When Or Whether To Have Kids

PRI The World

Choosing to have a family and determining its size are highly personal, sometimes painful decisions that has consequences for your finances, health, and happiness. Up To Date is partnering with PRI’s The World for its series exploring family planning options from around the globe.

On Thursday's edition of Up to Date, Steve Kraske talks with economist, Bryan Caplan, and sociologist, S. Philip Morgan. They explore family choices in America, and what factors parents consider when deciding whether to have more children, or to have children at all. We look at how do social, financial, and career demands affect those choices, and whether family size impacts how we raise our kids.

Guests:

  • Bryan Caplan, is a Professor of Economics at George Mason University and a blogger for EconLog, one of the Wall Street Journal’s Top 25 Economics Blogs. He is the author of, Selfish Reasons to Have More Kids.
  • S. Philip Morgan, is a Professor of Sociology, and Director of Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
