Finding The Philadelphia Chromosome

Developing a medicine that attacks the genes of a disease may seem like science fiction, but it’s already been done.

In the first part of Tuesday's Up to Date, we talk with journalist Jessica Wapner about The Philadelphia Chromosome, an exploration of the journey to develop a genetic medicine to fight chronic myeloid leukemia.

Jessica Wapner is a journalist who has written for The New York Times, Scientific American, Slate, Science, Nature Medicine, Ode, Psychology Today, Oncology Business Review, Cure, and CR.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers.
