Since moving to Kansas City from New Mexico, jazz drummer Brandon Draper has kept a busy schedule, playing and recording with artists like Ahmad Alaadeen, Harold O'Neal and Bobby Watson.

Kansas City, MO – On his new CD, Brandon Draper New Quintet, he takes a turn as group leader and gets a chance to explore his own rhythmic concepts. Draper, who's also an instructor at UMKC and Shawnee Mission West, told KCUR's Alex Smith about his passion for Middle Eastern rhythms and how a college friend introduced him to the furious beats of electronica.
