Kansas City Bartenders Share Their Favorite Spring Cocktails

The weather is turning nice and it's baseball season: Let's drink!

Bartenders from all around the city pitched in their favorite cocktails for a nice spring day. You can try your hand at amateur mixing, or head to your local hangout for a stiff drink and a great time. Cheers!

Shae Mermis, Tom's Town: Bittersweet Caroline

2 ounces Pendergast's Royal Gold Bourbon
3/4 ounce lemon juice
3/4 ounce pink peppercorn and grapefruit infused honey
1/4 ounce Cynar 70

This drink is named for Caroline Pendergast, who didn't attended her husband Tom's funeral. Shake, then double strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice and garnish with a grapefruit twist.

Abril Negrete, The Drop: Boomsma Squirrel

1 part Amaretto
2 parts Boomsma Oude Genever
1/2 part lime juice
Splash of simple syrup

Mix & serve in a chilled glass. 

Dominic Petrucci, Julep: Dr. Bunsen

3-5 mint leaves
1/2 ounce mint simple syrup
3/4 ounce St. Germain
3/4 ounce lemon juice
1 ounce honeydew juice
1 ounces cucumber vodka

Ice and shake, then double strain into a chilled coupe.

Goodness, Heron

3 dashes Angostura orange bitters
1 spoon agave nectar
1 spoon 7 percent citric acid solution
1/2 spoon 20 percent saline solution
1/2 ounce Suze
2 ounces red cabbage infused Vida mezcal

Ice and stir, then strain into chilled rocks glass. Add a clear ice cube and garnish with a lemon spiral on top to finish.

Everything is real

1/2 ounce simple syrup
1/2 ounce coconut cream 
3/4 ounce lemon juice
2 ounces turmeric infused gin

5 second dry shake, then ice and shake. Double strain into chilled coupe and garnish with cilantro and star anise.

Tom's Town is an ode to the days when political boss Tom Pendergast ruled Kansas City. It's located downtown.

Van Zarr, RyeTiki Picante

1 ounce plantation rum
1/2 ounce house-made falernum
3/4 ounce pineapple-ancho chili syrup
1/2 ounce lime juice
3 dashes house-made scorched earth bitters

Ice and mix then garnish with a dusting of chili and cocoa powder.
