Kansas City, MO – One might say the Kansas City Irish Fest had an inauspicious start in 2003. After a successful opening day in Berkley Riverfront Park, it began pouring rain. Eight inches and two days later, event organizers were looking at nearly $100,000 in lost revenue. The festival, however, persevered. Last year, it drew 58,000 people, including reporters from two major publications in Ireland. Now in its fourth year, festival organizers are expecting an even larger crowd this Labor Day weekend.
Held at the Crown Center Square September 1-3, 2006, the Irish Fest will feature comedy shows, a dance competition, fireworks, food and drink. Bands from Canada and Florida will perform, while local Celtic rock band The Elders will headline the show.
