Kevin Yoder Wins Kansas 3rd Congressional Seat
Johnson County, Kansas – The 3rd Congressional District in Kansas will send a Republican to Washington for the first time in a dozen years. Congressman - elect Kevin Yoder ecstatically made that point as throngs of volunteers and supporters cheered his victory last night at the Overland Park Marriott.
Shouting "Yoder, Yoder," the 2-term Republican legislator sailed onto stage with dozens of so-called Yoder Voters, his volunteers throughout the long and sometimes ugly campaign.
Yoder told the crowd they could count of an ear in Washington now that he and so many fellow Republicans would be there.
"I know you've worried that Washington didn't care about you. Well, now you don't have to worry anymore."
Yoder took an early lead and ultimately beat challenger Stephene Moore with 59% of the vote last night.
He said the economy and jobs will be his highest priorities. He'd like to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, to repeal the Obama health care law, and kill the House-passed energy bill known as cap and trade.
The one time college Democrat said he was not worried about bipartisanship and compromise given the new voice of Tea party conservatives in Congress.
