KS Governor, Officials Tour Devastated KS Town
By AP/KCUR
Kansas City, Mo. – Kansas Governor Sam Brownback and his staff toured Reading on Monday after a weekend storm hit the small Kansas community and killed one resident. The storm hit Saturday night about 50 miles south of Topeka, Kan. The system brought tornadoes, hail, wind and rain to a corridor of northeast Kansas. About 200 homes were damaged in and around Reading, a town of about 250 residents. Authorities have identified the fatality as 53-year-old Don Chesmore. He was in a mobile home that flipped over. He was taken to a hospital in Emporia, where he was pronounced dead. U-S Representative Tim Huelskamp, who represents the 1st District in Congress, says that volunteers are helping residents clean up and begin recovering from the storm. Huelskamp's district staff was also surveying the damage.
