Two sets of tax credits were passed by Missouri lawmakers Wednesday and sent to Governor Jay Nixon (D).
One measure would restore and renew several benevolent tax credit programs, including incentives for food pantries, widowed survivors of slain law enforcement officers, and crisis pregnancy centers. State Representative Anne Zerr (R, St. Charles) says it was important to have a separate tax credit bill for benevolent incentives, instead of lumping them together with those sought by developers.
“This year, we really wanted to make a conscious effort to pull those two apart, because benevolent tax credits and social tax credits are an entirely different approach to providing social programming and help,” Zerr said.
The Missouri House passed the benevolent tax credit package by a near unanimous vote. Hours later, the Missouri Senate also passed the measure.
Both chambers also sent to the Governor an incentives bill designed to lure amateur sporting events to Missouri.
