Reflecting On Orlando

Hannah Copeland
/
KCUR 89.3

Saturday night's mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, marked the deadliest shooting on U.S. soil in recent history, with 49 dead and 53 more wounded. The LGBT community wasn't the only community that bore the brunt of this attack — the vast majority of the victims were Latino or Latina, and other people of color. How is Kansas City's local Latino community reacting to the news? And do the LGBT and Latino communities feel safe now in Kansas City?

Guests:

  • Luis Hernandez, member of Latino LGBT community in Kansas City
  • Miguel Morales, member of Latino LGBT community in Kansas City
  • Ash R. Allee, queer activist, social worker at KC Care Clinic, co-organizer for KC TGNC Leadership Summit July 29-31
  • Derrick Bachman, owner, Bistro 303
