Saving Public Education In America
By Laurie Arbore and Jabulani Leffall
What will transform America's public high schools?
Kansas City’s Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, like Bronx Science, Boston Latin and the Illinois Math And Science Academy, is in elite company. These are all high-achieving high schools and some of the most selective institutions in the country. The other thing they have in common is that they are all public schools.
On Monday's Central Standard, former Assistant U.S. Secretary of Education, Chester Finn, will talk about his book, aptly titled Exam Schools. We’ll discuss the role of so-called 'exam schools' in the overall conversation about how to save public education in America, while also addressing the growing inequality in educational opportunities across the country.
