Seg. 1: East Bottoms. Seg. 2: Farewell To StoryCorps

Segment 1: Big development shifts in Kansas City's East Bottoms.

There's been a lot of economic buzz in the East Bottoms lately. A local distillery looks to expand operations to the historic Heim Brewery bottling plant, while a well-known meat shop moves out to a new location in the River Market. On this episode, we discuss the past, present, and future of the East Bottoms.

  • Jaclyn Danger, producer/founder of the Cannonball Roarers
  • Michael Bushnell, publisher, Northeast News
  • Alex Pope, owner, Local Pig

Segment 2, beginning at 34:14: All good things must come to an end. That includes StoryCorps' stay in Kansas City.

StoryCorps, a national organization dedicated to preserving the stories of Americans from all walks of life, is leaving Kansas City after several weeks of recording. We chat about the stories of Kansas Citians that will be preserved for ages in the Library of Congress.

  • Jacqueline Van Meter, site manager, StoryCorps Mobile Tour

People don't make cameos in news stories; the human story is the story, with characters affected by news events, not defined by them. As a columnist and podcaster, I want to acknowledge what it feels like to live through this time in Kansas City, one vantage point at a time. Together, these weekly vignettes form a collage of daily life in Kansas City as it changes in some ways, and stubbornly resists change in others.
