KCUR 89.3

Segment 1: The Urban Youth Academy at 18th and Vine is up and running. How is it affecting nearby neighborhoods?

When the Urban Youth Academy was first announced some people were concerned it would be primarily used by suburban visitors rather than kids in the surrounding neighborhoods. We get an update on how people are feeling about the facility now that it is up and running.

  • Pat Clarke, president, Oak Park Neighborhood Association

Segment 2, beginning at 21:01: What lies ahead for cyclists in the Kansas City area in 2018.

From bike lanes on Grand Avenue to developments in North Kansas City, we find out what changes cyclists can look out for this year.

  • Eric Bunch, director of education, Bike Walk KC
  • Joe Blankenship, city planner, Long Range Planning & Preservation Division of KCMO
  • Sara Copeland, community development director, North Kansas City
People don't make cameos in news stories; the human story is the story, with characters affected by news events, not defined by them. As a columnist and podcaster, I want to acknowledge what it feels like to live through this time in Kansas City, one vantage point at a time. Together, these weekly vignettes form a collage of daily life in Kansas City as it changes in some ways, and stubbornly resists change in others.
