Top Kan. Health Official Leaves Post For DC

Kansas City, MO – Kathleen Sebelius, the former governor of Kansas and now Secretary of Health and Human Services, has successfully pulled a top Kansas leader to join her in Washington D.C.

The U.S. Senate has confirmed Kathy Greenlee as the new Assistant Secretary for Aging. The announcement means she'll be leaving her post as the Kansas Secretary of Aging and work for her former boss at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Previously, Greenlee served as a top aid to Kathleen Sebelius, both in the Kansas Department of Insurance and the Governor's office.

The head of the Kansas Agencies on Aging Association says Greenlee's been a strong voice for Kansas seniors over the years, especially when it comes to access to dental care, mental health issues, and improving the quality of nursing homes in the state.

A replacement for Greenlee has yet to be announced.

Funding for health care coverage on KCUR has been provided by the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City.
