Here comes cold weather. And here come the holidays. So it's probably a good time to have a conversation about how to prepare your dogs or cats for all this.
On this edition of Up to Date Dr. Wayne Hunthausen talks with Steve Kraske on how to prepare your pets for the cold that's ahead.  We'll also talk about how to keep your pet safe during the holidays.  We'll find out why Dr. Wayne is not a big fan of buying kittens or puppies for Christmas and give you his alternative to adding a pet to the family during the holidays.

Then Hunthausen answers listener questions from how to stop an overly friendly dog from greeting people with her nose in inappropriate places to foiling a super-scavenger feline!

Guest:

  • Wayne Hunthausen of Westwood Animal Hospital & Wellness Center is a veterinarian and pet behavior consultant. He currently serves on the Practitioner Board for Veterinary Medicine and the Behavior Advisory Board for Veterinary Forum.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers. Reach me at steve@kcur.org or on Twitter @stevekraske.
As senior producer of Up To Date, I want our listeners to hear familiar and new voices that shine light on the issues and challenges facing the myriad communities KCUR serves, and to expose our audiences to the wonderful and the creative in the Kansas City area. Just as important to me is an obligation to mentor the next generation of producers to ensure that the important conversations continue. Reach me at alexanderdk@kcur.org.
