One person is dead and eight others were injured in two separate shooting incidents in the Kansas City metro this weekend.

Around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, a gunman fired into a crowd of people walking in Kansas City's Westport district, injuring six people, one critically. The Westport gunman used a semi-automatic weapon, Kansas City police chief Darryl Forte said in a Tweet.

Police officers were processing the crime scene Sunday, while hundreds of people flocked to the district for the annual Westport Art Show.

Just after 1 p.m. miles away from Westport in Shawnee, Kansas, officers responded to a call from Walmart on West 65th Street. Officers arrived to find several people injured.

In a news release Sunday afternoon, the Shawnee police department said a woman was attacked by two suspects in the parking lot, a bystander attempted to intervene and was shot several times. Another bystander then fired shots at one of the suspects, who died at the scene. The other suspect fled, but was apprehended.

Police are still investigating both incidents.
