On Wednesday, June 16, KCUR held its second annual Underwriter and Major Donor Appreciation Party. About a hundred KCUR supporters joined the station at Californos in Westport. Special honors went to three KCUR "outstanding community partners"- the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, M&I Bank, and Shawnee Mission Medical Center for their support of the station and other worthwhile community organizations and activities.
In addition, special acknowledgment was given to KCUR's on-going partners, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, our generous matching challenge gift and annual donors, and our devoted station members.
The evening was further highlighted by a visit from Robert Siegel, host of All Things Considered, who stopped by the party. He was on assignment in St. Joseph, Missouri, preparing a story about the state's national senate race. Mr. Siegel stayed until everyone had left, talking with guests about NPR, KCUR, public radio and news in general.
An extraordinary performance by The Elders, Kansas City's popular Celtic rock band, topped off the evening until a summer shower moved the party indoors. It was a lovely evening of friends sharing a great time and good stories with one another.
On Thursday, May 28, KCUR celebrated with station underwriters and members of the Watts Endowment Society. About two hundred KCUR supporters joined the station at Californos in Westport. Special honors went to three of KCUR's "longest running continuous underwriters"- the Harry S. Truman Library & Museum, as well as, the law firms of McDowell, Rice, Smith & Buchanan and Lewis, Rice & Fingersh.
In addition, special acknowledgement was given to Joan Dods as plans to rename KCUR's major donor program were announced. The Watts Endowment Society will be named in memory of Joan's husband, longtime friend and KCUR supporter, John Dods. The evening was further highlighted by an extraordinary performance by The Elders, Kansas City's popular Celtic rock band.
