State eliminates mental health coordinators

KANSAS CITY – Missouri's legislature will meet next week to re-examine $27 million in cuts it approved in the State's Department of Mental Health budget. As of this Friday, mental health coordinators will be eliminated by the cuts. Supporters say the coordinators are an invaluable link between the state and those in need. Missouri officials maintain the budget picture is so tight they have no choice but to reduce services. The changes would shape Missouri's mental health system into one similar to what's found in Kansas. K-C-U-R's Matt Hackworth reports the first in a series of stories examining how budget cuts will impact mental health programs:
