Taylor Contract Not Renewed

By Sylvia Maria Gross

Kansas City, MO – After a two-week delay of a vote, the Kansas City, Missouri school board voted 8-1 Wednesday night not to renew the contract of superintendent Bernard Taylor, Jr. Board president David Smith praised Taylor's accomplishments in getting provisional accreditation for the district, but said new leadership is needed for the future. Smith specifically cited declining enrollments at a time of community development and growth. The board asked Taylor to continue to serve until his current contract expires in June.
