Kansas Kids and Courts Committee Eliminated

By Delores Jones

Kansas City, MO – Leaders of the Kansas House of Representatives have disbanded the Corrections and Juvenile Justice Committee to increase the efficiency of the House. Speaker Doug Mays says the committee produced too many bills, bogging down Judiciary Committee. But some black and Latino leaders say that the committee was addressing issues that are important to their communities. Last year, the committee drafted the bill that made racial profiling illegal in the state of Kansas.

Oletha Faust-Goudeau is a Democratic Representative from Wichita, and she served on the Corrections and Juvenile Justice committee.
