City Efforts to Increase Minority Contractors

By Sylvia Maria Gross

Kansas City, MO – The City Council of Kansas City Missouri last week approved the Sprint Center's final construction price at 178.3 million dollars. In order to close the deal, council members lowered the requirements for construction manager MA Mortenson Company of Minneapolis using minority and women-owned contractors. Only a day before, however, the company agreed to work with the city's pre-apprenticeship program to train minority and women constructions workers. Sylvia Maria Gross reports on citywide efforts to increase diversity on city-financed projects.
