Kansas City, MO – The local chapter of Habitat for Humanity will build 10 homes this week to send to Louisiana. The homes are part of Homes from Heartland a project to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Brooks says this project sends an important message to those trying to rebuild homes and lives.
Alvin Brooks: "By our presence here today, we want it to be known by those persons in New Orleans that they're not forgotten and that the bureaucracy that still exists that caused many of them to be homeless and suffer from other kinds of ailments and more than anything else that human ailment called human frustration, we would hope and know that it would satisfy at least some families in the New Orleans area."
Volunteers will pre-build housing components all this week on the lawn at Liberty memorial, and then the parts will be shipped to the Gulf coast to be permanently set up.
