Kansas City, MO – In the Kansas City Mayor's race, one of the central, some would say THE central issue, is something called Tax Increment Financing, or TIF. Former City Auditor Mark Funkhouser says the city has spread these tax breaks for developers much too freely, wracking up serious debt, without helping the most blighted areas. Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Brooks says the city has used TIF with great success, and should examine the program, but keep doing pretty much what it's doing.

Congress just eliminated federal funding for KCUR, but public radio is for the people.
