Some 220,000 Missourians will see their tax bills decrease this year. The tax cut will be phased in over 6 years and will cost the state some $150 million each year when fully implemented. Governor Blunt says the change will bring Missouri into line with the majority of other states.
Blunt: "Thirty five other states have figure out how to get by without taxing these benefits. I think we can do the same."
Detractors have said the money could be better spent on restoring Medicaid coverage to some 90,000 people who lost it two years ago.
