Researching Black Masculinity in Africa

By Sylvia Maria Gross

Kansas City, MO – Penn Valley Community College President Bernard Franklin has been studying masculinity in the African American community and church for many years. He has examined the subject through academia--his PhD is in psychology--as a church pastor, and a vice president for the National Center for Fathering, which is based in Kansas City. But two recent trips to Africa helped answer some of Dr. Franklin's persistent questions.

He'll be discussing The Africa Nobody Knows in a talk on Thursday at the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library. Dr. Franklin stopped by our studios this week to talk about his research with KCUR's Sylvia Maria Gross.
