Kansas City, MO –
Despite a hearing overflowing with those pleading to reduce funding cuts, a Kansas City City Council committee advanced a dramatically pared budget proposal. The Kansas Senate passed a health care bill that extends insurance coverage to 5500 middle-class children but indefinitely postpones subsidies to help poor parents buy insurance for themselves. Flooding continued across mid and southern Missouri with five death reported and waters still rising. The KU Jayhawks prepared for tomorrow morning's post-season stand against Portland. Independence Police Chief Fred Mills has announced his retirement. Mills says the decision is not related to recent criticisms of pursuit and complaint-handling policies.
