Kansas City, MO –

  • Mayor Mark Funkhouser has confirmed that Kansas City is one of two cities in the running for a $375 milllion Bombardier passenger jet assembly plant. The other finalist is Montreal.
  • The Kansas House gave first-round approval to a bill that was basically the same as one passed last year, but without the judicial trigger clause that the state Supreme Court found unconstitutional.
  • The Missouri House is debating the 2009 state budget. Governor Blunt is proposing over 5 billion for elementary and secondary education, and nearly 1.3 billion for higher education.
  • A federal judge has refused Missouri's request to stop the Corps of Engineers from raising water levels on the Missouri River this week. Attorney General Jay Nixon said the action could worsen flood conditions.

  • KCUR prides ourselves on bringing local journalism to the public without a paywall — ever.
