KCUR Evening Newscast 5-2-08

Kansas City, MO –

  • The National Weather Service now says there were two or more tornadoes involved in a 2AM Friday storm that damaged 300 homes and left 50,000 without electricity. At least 20 homes were destroyed. Remarkably, no deaths or serious injuries occurred.
  • The Kansas Supreme Court Judge has unsealed the contents of two suits against Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline. The result could delay or end Kline's prosecution of Planned Parenthood of Overland Park. The first hearing on the lawsuits is scheduled for May 22
  • A District Court has upheld most of Secretary of State Carnahan's ballot language for a Missouri initiative to outlaw SCNT stem-cell research. The court made a one-word change, replacing "repeal" with "change."

  • Congress just eliminated federal funding for KCUR, but public radio is for the people.
