Kansas City, MO –

  • A plan to put a new casino in Sugar Creek is on hold until voters have their say statewide in November. The Missouri Gaming Commission placed a moratorium on all new casinos in response to an initiative financed by Ameristar and Pinnacle Entertainment. The ballot measure would permanently prohibit the building of any new casinos.
  • A 16-year-old Johnson County boy has pleaded to a charge reduced from manslaughter to aggravated battery. The case centered on the death of another boy, who had a congenital heart defect, during an after-school fight.
  • Diminishing revenue and sales declines have led the Kansas City Star to announce it is eliminating 120 jobs. The Star will also reduce the size of its delivery area, trimming circulation by about 5,000.

  • KCUR prides ourselves on bringing local journalism to the public without a paywall — ever.
