Kansas City, MO –

  • An appeals court says Kansas City's mayor can not fire the city manager on his own without approval of six members of the council... or by letting the manager's contract expire.
  • At a news conference this morning, the mayor talked mostly about his immediate priorities - saying the banking crisis shouldn't get in the way of fixing the sewers or building light rail.
  • Rumor: Funkhouser considering hiring hardball Republican political consultant Jeff Roe. Council expresses shock.
  • Congressmen Dennis Moore and Steny Hoyer, House majority leader, say some sort of Wall-Street rescue package can pass. Moore opponent Nick Jordan agrees on the need.
  • Republican for Governor Kenny Hulshof presented his urban schools plan in Kansas City today. It includes tax incentives to encourage private donations.

  • KCUR is here for Kansas City, because Kansas City is here for KCUR.
