Sprint Nextel announces 8,000 job cuts -- up to 2,000 in the Kansas City area. The company says more layoffs could follow.

A Kansas Senate committee has approved $300 million in budget cuts -- a 3.4% across-the-board spending decrease including for public schools.

Special prosecutors have missed the court deadline for filing a report on the e-mail practices of former MO governor Matt Blunt's office.
