Missouri Governor Nixon also signed a bill allowing people to drink at outdoor events in Westport and other entertainment venues.

Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson has cut most state spending by 2 percent to help fill another shortfall in the budget.

State budget cuts are also leading to shifts within the Kansas prison system. Beloit Juvenile Correctional Facility will suspend operations at the end of August.

Missouri Fire Marshal Randy Cole is reminding Missourians to play it safe with fireworks during the holiday weekend.
