A committee of the Kansas State Board of Education is planning a series of public hearings to debate the theory of evolution and how it should be taught in the classroom. But the chairman of the group that's been drafting new science standards is refusing to take part in those hearings. Professor Steve Case of the University of Kansas says he doesn't think the people calling for the hearings are qualified to decide the issue. Steve Case: "They don't have any credibility, and I have a real hard time lending the personal credibility and my academic credibility to something that I think lacks." The hearings are tentatively set for the first two weekends in May.
