Kansas City, MO –

  • Kansas City's largest annual convention kicks off downtown today. More than 15,000 students, teachers, and judges are convening this week for the national SkillsUSA convention.

  • Former NBA center and Olathe resident, Manute Bol, will be buried in his village in Southern Sudan, family members said last night.

  • Psychologists, in-home care providers for the disabled, and drug abuse counselors in Missouri are bracing for a two percent payment reduction from the state.

  • U.S. Representative Todd Tiahrt helped bring in nearly $24 million in earmarks this year to private companies, universities, and school districts in Kansas. A new study by a nonpartisan research group has found that individuals and political committees tied to those groups make up nearly $50,000 in campaign donations to Tiahrt, who's running for U.S. Senate.

  • U.S. General David Petraeus is headlining a Korean War event in Independence Missouri later this morning.

  • KCUR prides ourselves on bringing local journalism to the public without a paywall — ever.
