Walker's Review: The Girl that Played with Fire

Arts Reporter Steve Walkers takes a look at new films showing in KC. The Girl Who Played With Fire

Right on the heels of the DVD release of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" comes the second film adaptation of Steig Larrson's Swedish crime epic about Lisbeth Sanders, a bisexual computer hacker, and the journalist who can't get her out of his system.

Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqkvist recreate their roles from the first film, but don't encounter each other until the last reel. Instead, the story pivots on the murder of two journalists about to publish an expose on Swedish sex trafficking, and how Lisbeth becomes the prime suspect.

Just as in its prequel, the film's violence is harsh and disturbing but once you get past the bruises, there's an entertaining detective story at work. - Steve Walker
