Country Club Rezoning: Next Round

KANSAS CITY, MO. – Tomorrow may tell if there's room for compromise in rezoning on County Club Plaza.

Councilman Bill Skaggs proposes resurrection of Highwoods Properties building plan.

Planning and Zoning Committee of the City Council tomorrow will get a look at Skaggs offering. He wants rezoning of Neptune Condos from dwelling to office and redrawing the Plaza Development Plan.

Friends of the Plaza is expected to be represented in opposition. Of that organization, Skaggs says-- "the first time the people complained they were building in the bowl and they moved up the hill a block . They still were not happy so I don't know you can ever make those folks happy."

Skaggs would like the Polsinelli Law Firm to reconsider its pullout of Plaza construction. But he will be satisfied with any business that moves into a rezoned building for office use.

Skaggs says the Country Club Plaza needs business and the area needs the jobs. And the Councilman says he thinks he has the votes to make the controversial change.
