Bill To Block Birth Control Coverage Moves Ahead

Legislation that would allow employers to block insurance coverage for birth control, abortions and sterilizations, all for religious reasons, has passed a Missouri Senate committee.  The bill was filed in response to President Obama’s recent mandate that church-run institutions provide coverage for birth control – that mandate has since been amended to require insurers to provide coverage if a religious employer refuses to do so.   Read more here.

Missouri’s High Court Rules Against Ethics Law

The Missouri Supreme Court has struck down a 2010 ethics law that took along and twisted path to its final form.  Find out more here.

Democrats Present School Funding Plan to Kansas Board Of Education

The Kansas Board of Education heard the details of a school funding proposal put together by Democrats in the state legislature. The plan would increase education spending by $180 million over three years.  Read more here.

Lawyers At Odds Over Bill to Allow Some Illegal Immigrants to Work in Kansas

A bill in the Legislature would allow some illegal immigrants to work legally in Kansas. A House committee has been holding hearings this week on the bill. Lawyers gave legislators some conflicting information. Some say the bill will be blocked by federal law, while others say it will be a legal way to ease labor shortages.  Listen to the story here.
