Non-Romney Candidates Continue Delegate Search

SCOTT SIMON, HOST:

Yesterday was also a busy day for Mitt Romney's rivals for the Republican nomination. Newt Gingrich spent the day in Alabama and Mississippi. At a rally in Meridian, Mississippi, the former speaker of the House claimed that President Obama has what he called a dangerous vision for America.

NEWT GINGRICH: This is a president whose vision tells him it's OK to apologize to Muslim religious fanatics who are killing young Americans, while he is attacking the Catholic Church and every right-to-life institution. And he sees no contradiction because his vision is of that kind of world.

SIMON: Rick Santorum and Ron Paul campaigned in Kansas. Mr. Santorum told a crowd in Topeka that Mitt Romney had changed his stances on issues including health care and climate change, and misled voters.

RICK SANTORUM: You know, ladies and gentlemen, we already have one president who doesn't tell the truth to the American people. We don't need another, nominated by our party, to do the same.

SIMON: Also in Topeka, Ron Paul continued his call for more limited government.

RON PAUL: We're at a crossroads where we have to decide as a nation, what should the role of government be? I say it should be to protect liberty - not to run our lives, and not to police the world.
