Fed Debates Easing U.S. Monetary Policy

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

LINDA WERTHEIMER, HOST:

NPR's business news starts with Fed anticipation.

The Federal Reserve starts its latest two-day meeting today, and analysts around the globe are wondering whether the central bank will decide to ease monetary policy. That's because this meeting comes in the aftermath of some tough U.S. labor data and the recent Greek elections.

The key question is how concerned the Fed is about what's happening in Europe and whether the Fed believes that could tip the global economy into recession. Any new action would be announced after the meetings wrapped up on Wednesday afternoon. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
