Kansas City, MO – The phrase: "Don't Quit Your Day Job" has been used as a put down for decades. If someone sings badly, that's what they're told. And yet, often it's the day job that provides the inspiration, material, or simply a structured schedule for the art.

Today in KCUR's new series, "Don't Quit Your Day Job," KCUR's Alex Smith talks to musician John Brewer about his day job and how it impacts his art.

For other stories in our series "Don't Quit Your Day Job," listen here to office assistant and visual artist Danny Gibson and here to visual artist and Hallmarker Mark Spencer AKA Johnny Naugahyde.
