Overland Park, Kansas – As it continued to blizzard well into Wednesday night and Thursday morning, snow crews and public officials metro-wide were saying they thought they'd be working into the weekend. Temperatures are supposed to drop below zero while winds are expected to pick up.
In Overland Park, 12-hour shifts changed at 7:30 last night. The City Manager ordered pizza for maintenance crews working overtime. Mayor Carl Gerlach, in a bomber jacket and draped in a purple, K-State scarf (he played basketball for K-State,) brought his high-school daughter to ride-along on one of the snow ploughs.
He dismissed the flack his colleague, Mayor Funkhauser, has gotten over snow removal across the state line: "All of us mayors in the metropolitan area, we talk now and then. And so,we have discussions about different topics,sure. He's got a lot larger area, I think the number of lane miles is 3 or 4 times as many. They work hard at that, I think and they're doing real well."
Overland Park officials say they'll continue the 12 hour shifts and aggressive snow removal in anticipation of the forecast for the next few days.
