Kansas City region scores highest jobless rate drop for metro cities in the nation.

The Kansas City metro area, both sides of state line, has shown a remarkable decline in its unemployment rate, better than any metro district in the nation.

The figures released today reflect the year ending February 1st.

It is the biggest decline among all 372 metro areas tracked by the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.  As reviewed by Linda Nickisch, one of three economists employed by Region VII of the Bureau, --“we were down 2-point-1 percentage points from one year ago.  So Kansas City is going in the right direction.”

The figures amount to a drop in the area’s unemployment rate from 9.3 percent to 7.2.

The nation showed a drop of 1 and a half percent for the same period.

In January, the Bureau tracked just over 75 thousand people looking for work (75,100) in metro Kansas City.  A year before it stood at 97 thousand.

For the year, figures  indicate 13,300 jobs were added.
