Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City city council has reversed direction on its rejection of a reappointment to the TIF commission.
Council members gave no reason last week when they voted against the mayor's proposal to reappoint Claudia Onate-Greim, chair of the city's TIF advisory commission. But when the mayor exercised his power to call for a second vote yesterday, they talked.
Some "no" voters complained of poor communication from the mayor's office and a "closed-to-business" attitude on the part of the commission.
But Terry Riley said the entire matter was one of political posturing, and Sharon Sanders-Brooks added,"That's the reason the public hates us: because of the petty things that we're doing. We talk about 'economic development,' this about pure politics. Lay it on the table! This has to do with campaign contributions and retaliatory action."
Ornate-Greim was reappointed on an 8 to 2 vote, with council members Hermann, Skaggs and Circo abstaining.
Earlier, a council committee indefinitely tabled a proposal to investigate possibilities for privatization of some city assets.
